When I hear talk about work-life balance, I often hear people focus on time – but the real key lies in feeling in control of your choices. It’s not just about working less; it’s about working and living with intention.

Start by recognising that balance looks different for everyone. 

Some thrive on long, focused work sessions followed by complete disconnection. Others prefer a more fluid integration of work and personal time. 

Neither approach is better – what matters is that it aligns with YOU…your values and priorities.

The mindset shift comes from viewing your choices as active decisions rather than obligations. Instead of “I have to work late,” try “I’m choosing to complete this project now.” This simple reframe puts you back in the driver’s seat of your life.

Consider creating standards that serve  you rather than restrict you.
Maybe that means blocking off mid-day breaks for exercise, setting specific times to check emails, or dedicating certain evenings solely to personal activities.
