I love Mondays now but it wasn’t always that way – especially when I was at school. I never really loved school unless it was a day where I had a hockey practice or game – so Mondays were always a challenge – no hockey! But for me now in business I see the day differently. I’m more invested in what work I can achieve during the week, the enjoyment of who’s life I can touch and the many projects I’m involved in. For me Monday is a reset, new opportunities and if I’ve done the weekend right then I feel energised.
If you’re one of the many who dread Mondays, then it may be time to investigate why and to make some changes. It will work better for you to shift that feeling permanently then starting Monday thinking yay only 4 more days till the weekend!!
If it’s your job, then that might be a tricky one — changing your job becomes harder due to the shackles of modern life – our financial responsibilities.
However, it can often only be just a few things about your job that give you the Monday blues, and these could be easily changed or re-energised.
It’s a good time to be curious and ask yourself why do I feel blah on a Sunday night about going to work on Monday and also be curious why you feel like that on the Monday – peel the onion to find the answers.
So in light of this topic, if you think you’d like some ideas on how to blow away the Monday blues then read the list below. There might be some ideas for you.
BEAT MONDAY BLUES WITH THESE TIPS
Don’t live for the weekends
We often fall into the trap that weekdays are all about work and no fun can be had. Try to spread out the joy and plan something fun during the week, like a movie night with friends, group exercise or even a walk with a friend after work. There’s 7 days in a week so make them all count – have a few highlights during the week too.
Monday as a reset
Change your perspective and practice seeing Monday as a reset day, a day to create change and new intentions.
Minimise meetings
Most Mondays I minimise meetings. Most Mondays I minimise meetings. Why? So I can get into the chunky stuff, the projects that I can get my teeth into reenergised and focussed. It starts the week off so powerfully!
Friday set up
By the end of play on a Friday I have my Monday planned – my hot list of to dos so that I hit the week organised and focussed. It helps make the week feel complete too on a Friday and takes the worry out of Sunday nights, the mind worry of “what do I have to do at work tomorrow”
Sunday night set up
Make Sunday night relaxing and an early night – perhaps even something nice like reading in bed before lights out. Having a great sleep will always make Mondays seem more palatable! You can even go so far as laying out the Monday morning outfit and a good lunch ready the night before — eliminating any stress in the a.m. will only make Mondays more tolerable.
Generate good vibes early
While getting ready for work, turn up the stereo, listen to music not the talkback! Music boosts your mood so it makes sense. Blast the music that makes you happy.
